Running is it as easy as it sounds? I'd say find it for yourself :P I did find it for myself @ Cognizant COP 5K run

I’m scribbling about the Chennai COP 5K run, a Cognizant internal celebration run. Cursing myself for registering on event which would demand me to wake up by 0430 am I snoozed my alarm, even for my school/college final exams I haven’t made it before 0530 am . Mom got up and asked “தம்பி நிஜமாவே போறியா” (are you really going) I shock my head in solace. Quickly I got freshened up and then came a hot cup of boost(secret of my energy too :D ) drank it and went in search of my shoes…
All set to conquer the world I touched the bike key, >.< I felt like someone slapped me. Mind voice: “This is the first time ever you are gonna do some healthy stuff after deployment let be it really healthy” I took my cycle key its was couple of weeks past “Ayutha pooja” so I remember that I have a cycle and I checked air 2 weeks back though have not used it afterwards it must be good for a ride. Its covered with dust Chennai is a polluted city even the green sub-urb can’t be given a green tag away from pollution. Then dusted and managed it to road then my mom shouted “you’ll miss the bus” I replied “I know what I’m doing” c’mon a firm generating $1.89 billion per quarter is believing me why this silly mom is so worried.
May be my mom is not wrong about me, after all she is mom but luckily the bus driver was also late. When I reached bus stop there stood a lone man in darkness… ok I give up I wasn’t that dark it’s 0530 already, Mohan was his name he accompanied me throughout the run, as my mentor mates who has promised to be with me for the run has already switched off their mobile  I got into bus choose a comfortable seat to sleep but then came the surprise package from MEPZ. A small gangs of ruptures singing songs in many languages in high frequency low entertaining/encouraging mode... I’m getting paid for what I did to my lecturers in my college :(

It was around 0620 am when we reached Siruseri SIPCOT campus sleepless dull but soon got energized by seeing other its definitely not a myth that “you’d yawn if you see a person yawn” then after small registration conformation process got a number board pinned it to my t-shirt sat in the lining brick. Just saw around, people were busy warming up, stretching their legs and arms and one group discussing the amount of time it might take for enthusiastic to complete the run. I was wondering whether I’d even complete :P By 0700 sharp Chandra waved the flag marking the beginning of run and also joined us, prior to that participants were classified into runners, joggers, walkers obviously I joined joggers and started couple of of mins late than half of the pack.
For few min got a chance to run aside Chandra himself he was asking some other person to run instead of giving company to him(in Tamil) I was wondering if there is anyone who can give company to me 8-) Young blood went past many promising runners who are walkers now then comfortably stroke a rhythm. Soon came the first aid station where we have to get a token slowly energy deprived.  from jog to run to run to jog to walk I was stranded, at a distance I can see volunteers shouting c’mon you can do this. I was speaking to myself “I must make this guy run after everything is over :@ ” But still their energy in distributing glucose powder, banana, chocolate helped me reach third aid station where we get second and last token.
Earlier just before start for run participants were instructed to collect 2 token from I and III aid station to conform their completion of run also the run must be complete within 90 mins. Now its conformed that I ran the run but was waiting for someone to pick me up but none turned up…. But again volunteers came said “just 200m you can make this” I spent 4 month in academy here you can’t lie to me 2 Km more to go but at last made it completed the run in 40 minutes… According to officials clock it might be 42 mins but becoz I started 2 mins late I’m granting myself -2 mins bonus.
I returned 2 tokens got a new token for breakfast then saw the building queue for getting the goody *-) Before having food I stood in goody queue along with bus buddy collected ‘Vapur Anti-bottle’ And now I’m a proud guy with a certificate in my name and a medal to my honor waiting to be delivered 8-)

1 year @ Cognizant its exciting

Cognizant has given me all that I wanted, especially the green tag with ID card and the mysterious white plastic card about 3′X2′. I have written enough on my academy experience on my previous post –Training @ Cognizant so I’m gonna cut down to next 7 months.
Justifying the title even while writing this post I’m learning ‘Struts tile’, don’t get jealous on me people I’m yet to be assigned with a responsible business task. Skipping vetti bench period flowing the attention to deployment, Trainees were fired to all possible directions in India goodness I landed in Chennai.  I was directed to be a part of IME- MGH account from there re-directed to be with Lipper.

In Lipper account was given a title ‘PL/SQL developer’ first week was busy with assigning new systems raising RAMS request, getting tagged to the seat. Then I got that magical plastic card which gives me freedom from running behind closing doors its called as ‘The Access card’ Soon came party time ‘Team Lunch’ was arranged on Holy Smoke near CHN-TCO office you’d know why the restaurant has such name once you enter it “Holy smoke smells holy ash” But is has good food the 90% barbecued stuffs were really good
Even after designated as PL/SQL developer I was not ready to give up my hunger for Java and my manager Mr.Ganesh was kind enough to assign mentors for both Java and Oracle. Then started my tight learning plan for both technologies I have planned to learn. We have this Social-Collaborative-Working-Environment-Policy which gives our colleagues 3 portals one resembling twitter, other facebook and another for Bloggers this portals gave me good time to know more about Cognizant and how the business is approached here. Soon came the sad part my project got ramp-down eventually the resource so does my oracle mentor and the need for me to learn oracle.
But still I have Java in hand the technology I loved to learn now I can concentrate on it even more. I attended some classroom training to cover the lagging parts in Learning plan. Assignments were most exciting part of learning plan something which is not concentrated on Academy. Thanks to my mentor Mr. Pushparaj he was so stubborn on rules to follow right from design to final presentation OOP was concentrated as much as it could have been.
Marking the end of first year i.e., my probation period I will be evaluated and will be given conformation if I have performed enough. Choosing ranking scale would have been difficult for my manager coz I have not been part of any business yet. But still I had an excellent learning score, obviously every class room training will fetch 2 pts, as a team player completed some assignments as a part of mentors task and also I’m rolling out a newsletter in the name “Lipper fortnight” for every fortnight so he decided yes this guy is ok to be a ‘Programmer Analyst’ and now I’m cool.
Even though I didn’t manage to complete the first serious task assigned to me in the first year I did that in the following weeks completed OCJP certification but as most of you know clearning it doesn’t mean I know Java well. But yes I know it better than I know it a year back Then came a chance to interact with organization than just sticking to a department or location "COP Chennai 5K run" an internal celebration run also a healthy habit. Took part in that ran 5Km ok jogged then collected complementary "a cool Vapur Anti - bottle" for participation off course certificate. Hope to do great on my second year see ya on next post

How to: SCJP / OCJP certification, best practice, chennai

Oracle Certified Professional, Java Programmer(OCP,JP) is the certification I’m gonna discuss in this post. This certification is offered by ORACLE prior to this Sun was offering it in the name SCJP, in generic way I’m gonna refer this as OCJP.

Here I have given a list of FAQs that you can use.

1.What are the prerequisites or Should I have completed any other exam before this?
A:Not required. But its is good that you take mock up exams available in various sites before facing the big challenge. You’ll face 60 questions within 150mins you have to answer them and score 61% to clear the exam (37 questions must be correct).

2.What is the best book for this exam?
A: I haven’t heard of book for OCP,JP 1Z0-851 but there is book for SCJP 310-065 which is essentially the same exam but the name was changed once Oracle started to offer the exam. The book is authored by peoples who prepares the examination papers and patterns so they would be the best guide.

3.Is book enough for certification?
A: No Book is not enough it might give a outline of test and how to think but to master the exam book will not be enough we have to take mock up test, in the preface of book they have mention some forum and website to look for.

4.Where can I find mock test on this?
A: I’m giving here the two best sites; My favorite is javaranch.com, the rules round up quiz will be every useful. There is also another site examcollection.com watch that space for most updated paper ;) also try coderanch.com, roseIndia.net, theserverside.com, java.net, java2s.com for sample coding and help from people who knows java even better.

5.Where Can I take this test from? Is it possible to take it from home?
A: Its not possible to take test from home. Only approved Prometric centers / Person VUE centers can conduct this exam.

6.How much the voucher cost? Where can I buy? What are the mode of payments available?
A: Right now it cost Rs.8014 but with tax it will be high as Rs.9005. You can even buy it online but its advised that you go to the center you are planning to take exam to better have idea about the exam. You can make payment with almost all payment mode Cash/ Debit card/ Credit card. I bought the voucher and took the exam on the same day, same center – NIIT(Above KVB bank), Adyar, Chennai.

7.How many days before the exam I have to schedule for it?
A: Voucher is valid for 239 days. You can schedule then and there, just step into center ask them to schedule and take it in 30 min.

8.Can I reschedule/cancel the exam?
Yes, you can reschedule or cancel the but One business day before the exam. But if try to do so less than 24 hours before exam then you will loose your exam fee. You will not get the tax amount refunded even if you cancel before a business day so buy voucher only if you are sure to take exam.

9.What are essential proofs for exam?
A: Have to carry 2 Id’s atleast one must have your photo preferred that both has your signature. Preferred that one be our organization and other governments. But carry original, duplicates are not encouraged  you’ll also be demanded for photocopies of the Id proofs you are submitting.

You can find the certification link here… http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=5001&get_params=p_exam_id:1Z0-851&p_org_id=&lang=

Living by the side of Snake park, its Exciting

Early morning 8 am I woke up relaxed washed my face, took my Colgate brush in hand applied some Pepsodent paste in it. As usual while cleaning my teeth I went around the back yard to see how the garden is and get some fresh air. Yes I live in Sub-Urban Chennai but still my parents managed to have some respectable open land where some 8 trees and many plants smile :) Looking at the dump yard or the land owned by some software engineer in US my memories flashed backwards...

Living close to pond coming across different species of fish during raining season is normal. And also coming across the distant cousin and friends of fish like turtle, snake is also common. When water over flows the capacity of pond our streets will be flooded, these guys would be pulled along with water current where they will find new home and settle down.

This freaking Green card holder who bought the land is not building any thing on it neither maintaining it. With all the lands raised with brick and cement even road raised above it obviously un-maintained land is now a dump yard and at rainy days its mini pond. This is a real breed ground for creatures abandoned by main pond(periya eri).

The guy starring in this photo is not real
Among creature pulled by flood Snakes are so gifted they can stay in land comfortably and also they get high protein meal like mice and his cousins particularly when the stay is in residential area. What else eat the rodent live in its place :) wonderful warm hole half a ft below ground.

What these things gotta do with my garden? come on can't you think all these happen in open ground next to my home which is just separated from my place by a weak fence. Inside we have given enough space for them to explore and enjoy tree climbing they can climb you know!!! not just trees also walls.

I enjoy playing cricket with him.... cricket with who?? yeah snake... long back I was using this 'boost' ball to play cricket inside home at rainy days, obviously their high time! I played a simple left hand stylish straight drive the yellow fur ball bounced and went outside. I just ran behind it, that ball stopped from 20 kmph to 0 in a moment I wondered and took the ball in hand, it had a tail. Ball had a what? tail.... no its snake it thought the bouncing thing to be his 'bounty' frog :D

Another day we played hide n seek it was dark evening, I didn't notice that he saw me and came to catch I stepped over him, short tempered idiot bit me in my foot and ran away. That was the last time I played with him our relationship got completely broken when helped silly humans to kill his 3rd brother :( Now he is not willing to talk to me but still we'd see each others often. More that he get spotted by other humans he might be killed soon :(

Is Indian Railway's Train travel safe? Are attendants and RPF personnel are getting rogue? Which is safer to travel AC or SL class

What is the reason for having such a discussion Indian Railways is always considered to be safe compared to other way of transportation available in country? If you have such a thought in mind sorry my friend its no so. Recent incidents faced by my near and dear ones have made me think OMG! things are not rolling well.

It was about 3am at night when my mom woke up spotted dark image sitting at the toe end to my aunt's berth. It was a man he was using my aunt's berth as seat. Not making any freaking movements without panicking mom tried to wake up aunt, she was already awake. Small discussion between them relieved some shocking news that many of us don't want to hear.

Couple of weeks back my mom and aunt traveled from Chennai to Thirunelveli for a family function. For both to and fro journey they used 2A class, considering the temperature raise in state it must have been a pleasant journey compared to Sleeper class. But for this weird reasons they were forced to stay awake and watchful at night. During the journey from Chennai this stranger boarded midnight his place of boarding must have been Madurai. Seems he was there for more than 30 mins but was switching his seat from one to another.

Curtains were there for his benefit as a screen to hide himself from co passengers he was doing this pretty much comfortably this curtain support is not at dispose in sleeper class(SL). Before settling on my aunt's berth he used Side berth, it was berth of mid-aged woman seems he sat close to her face. My mom said nothing about harassing or molesting her, may be its not his motive if he had done something stupid like that he is a goner. Woman had hard time pushing him away only then we swtiched seat again after getting some licks and push from aunt he again changed seat. My mom also said he was not responsive to any vocal communication many asked him to go but he didn't for his luck commuters asking him to go away were females. Since its a AC coach and also 3am at night non of co-passengers could be at help only the few who woke up in the middle by themselves spotted him. None was ready to get up from berth and wake a male for a dictating voice, "wealth yes its important but life is more, what if he had a knife" as quoted by aunt to mom.

At last the RPF came in shouting the next station, you think relief came no!! then the teribble happpend RPF personnel was not bother by that stranger sitting in other berths. RPF personnel was followed by attendant of that coach he enquired for ticket to that stranger. He was a ticket less passenger then attendant took him along with him placing his hand on shoulder of stranger like good old friends. Return journey had similar chaos a dark man peeped into every curtain and was moving across the compartment. My brave mom got down from berth approached attendant to inform about this guy. Attendant had a irresponsible reply "He asked for a seat I said check if you have seats and that's what he is doing" Hopeless my mom return to her berth at least to protect her wealth.

There was another dear one but was going unlucky, travelling inter state similarly on a 2A class. Similar time 2 - 3 am crossing Coimbatore junction she lost all her valuable belongings purse, handbag sob! her dad had deep sleep unusual for that age his purse was robbed. Getting down at destination they registered a complaint to RPF luckily they had some cash to support their life in suitcase. Later the purse was found by civic workers at track close to Coimbatore junction 2 days later handbag was found in same train 3A compartment and investigation on it relieved attendant was the reason. Happy that all their debit/ credit/ identity cards came back their family didn't force for spearheaded investigation for thief and some cash went along.

I cant collude this topic this is fresh until some big publisher note this statistics and report in their front page. Indian Railway is always going to report big profit every year. Googling for some image I found this embarrassing article on how much Indian Railways is cared about passengers safety. If you have time go through this but its almost 1 year old still worth knowing http://www.goimonitor.com/story/security-train-running-late-indefinite-hours. Ah the last question I'd say SL is safe at least there is only faint chance that you'll fall in deep sleep cause of sweaty noisy compartments.

My tips:

  • Carry chain locks for baggage.

  • Padlocks whenever, wherever possible.

  • Hand luggage, Hand bags, back pack use them as Pillow or make yourself as a shield to it, fit it between you and wall of compartment.

  • Don't use side netted pouches hanging from wall for purse or handbag. Its strictly for Magazines, Newspaper, Water bottles or in generics term not so valuable stuff.

  • If you are ready to travel on AC compartment why choose night travel. If you don't have much of work to do at day light prefer travelling at day.

Ways I played Hide n Seek

Even though TNEB power cut slot for my locality is 10:00 to 12:00 they used to cut it when they feel stressed that people in home are under fan easing, not working. I want to tell them one thing strong and clear even people with work can sit in hot sun but without any work you can't even sit for a second without Fan or A/C whichever suits the consumers pocket. So during this unannounced power cuts at evening I just walk out of home to ease myself and to see how others are toiling ;)

I found small kids playing Hide n Seek, oh yeah summer vacation is here now. Leaning on the gate I quickly traveled time to reach my childhood where I played this wonderful game with excellent skill set. We have played this game in many formats, 3 were popular in my past. First old fashioned, even now everyone plays this way puts the head against a wall or lamp post counts and catches the players. The catcher has to tap the wall to announce a player is caught and same way any player has to tap the wall to declare the end of game and the catcher has to start the counting all over again.

The next format is advanced version of previous one were catchers will be given more edge. If a player taps the wall and still if there are some more to be found then they will be still in game. Eg. A, B, C, D, E, F plays the game and  A, the catcher catches B,C and then D taps the wall, then B,C,D are safe but E & F can still be caught.

The last format that is most loved by me and my best co-player Dinesh is a showmanship format, very much a catcher supportive format. The catcher counts and start to play as usual but he/she can spot and catch any player just by announcing that they are spotted n caught no need to run towards the wall or post. Making it more tough for players, they have to tap the back of catcher to bring the game to end.

Right from my childhood I'm fascinated and attracted towards climbing obvious we know our ancestors ;) Myself and Dinesh skilled among anyone in the game we almost rule the game, we decide who is going to be the catcher of next game and how many games will the current catcher be fooled and made catcher again and again. The latest format has tough chances for ruling its pretty much impossible to do but we had strategies. The most effective strategy is "Play Bait" one of us will intentionally appear before them so that other can easily tap and bring the game to halt.

Sweet memories, just like in every locality we have our 'unqualified' players under cut off age whom often runs to home to complain about their 'dummy player' role. Even some sweet players like elder sisters whom we love to have in game just in case to handle the pressure caused by 'unqualified' players in our case its my sis Selvi :) for their sweetness we the big boys who control the game never let them get caught. Even if they get caught we scarifies ourselves showing the bravery of Manhood :) sometimes for quick countdown we count from 1 to 10 for 10 times to complete 100 quickly try it... it really works :)

Up and Close with Sudalai Madan: The Encounter

Night of 13th April all the preparations for the rituals were done in the temple, Sudalaimadam swamies idol was decorated with flowers and fruits and coconuts dedicated to the lord reached above his chest. My cousin Sudalai muthu, senior priest of the shrine reached home by late night got blessings of his father Late Shanmugam Sundaram and blessed the family members in 8x10 room dedicated for God, then started towards the temple. There peoples in huge number were waiting for the Sudalaimada swamy's arrival. Different rituals were offered by people to the Lord in order to get the blessings. As its is believed Sudaimada swamy, son Lord Siva used to consume meat in Kailash for this reason he is sent to earth were he can satisfy his earthy hunger there by not polluting Kailash.

Sudalaimada swamy

Offering meat to Sudalaimadan is the most important and an watchful event in the festival. Many devotees offer their goat & pig so as to please the lord and get his blessings. That midnight Sudalaimada swamy was ready to accept the offerings as the signals were passed to the person responsible for cutting the flesh out, blood started to flow all around. <Spoiler alert: Don't read further if you are a PETA activitist :P>. First goat to be butchered was from same village where Sudalaimadan himself resides, Kumarapuram. Sharp sickle passed through the skin cutting out the heart of the calf sized goat. That scared heart of first goat was placed carefully in the first step of temple.

I was shocked to see as many were pleased to see this, some even had enough will to stand there till the 120th goat was butchered. I'm not soft hearted still I was not ready to see them die. One goat after other, no goat was taken away sickle passes through it dies and it will be placed next to the previously killed one. I can't find a perfect word to describe calf-sized goat in Tamil we refer it as 'Kada' whereas small ones are called as 'Aadu'. Soon the rituals of killing goats were over. Our family always had privilege in the temple I enter the temple via side entrance because if you are going to go in by main entrance then we have to step over a pile of approx 120 goats!!!

Settled inside I looked at Sudalaimadan to see if he is pleased with offerings can't get any clue. I don't want to get killed asking stupid questions to any serious devotee :P Then a long squeal in a low pitch shaking the floor, it was a pig or is it a warthog, seriously man I can never spot a pig of this size in my life. Roughly after 15 such squeal the meat offerings came to an end. <PETA activist can continue reading from here :)> My cousin currently in Sudalaimadan mode danced around for a minute climbed over the 2ft pile of flesh then rushed to burial ground 15 feet away....

OMG!!! he caught a bone in mouth and returned back sat in front of Veera Sangali madan shrine calmed down then distributed prasaads to devotees. Now the Sun has come up and has lit the temple with his rays, Chitapa and I returned to home rested there for sometime started back to Chennai. On the way back we again visited temple only to see dark blood stains all over the temple.

We came back so that we can worship lord when there is not much people around. Padmanabha Sudalaimada smamy is the main God of temple other gods were Veera Sangalimadan, Kattai erum perumal, Sappani madan, Karupaswamy, Moondan, Sangali Poothaththaan. I didn't spot any goddess I could have missed but as per history Sudalaimada swamies companion is Madathy amman and there is also another woman in Sudalaimadans life its Maavushakty, daughter of wicked sorcerer.

Up and Close with Sudalai Madan: Warm up

Hollywood is just a movie industry for most people, but for some like me it is life we take inspiration from it. I have watched many movies from all genres action, thriller, comedy, drama, romance.. but what I loved is controversial subject. When I traveled down south to my native for the holy festival 'Sudalaimada swamy kodai' Mikael Håfström's 1408 was in my mind. I always keep track of what I do at what time when I'm away from home in my diary. I caught this habit after maintaining the track diary when we take pilgrimage to Sabarimala.

I traveled with Athai to Thirunelveli by train we got freshed up in a hotel already booked by my Chittappa. I was happy he was there, someone who can guess what will be running in my mind. We reached Kumarapuram after going to Udhayathur soon we went to Sudalaimadan temple to see 'Paalabhisekam' then came back home. Chittappa helped me to push sometime by taking me to our ancestors home telling stories about them I wrote about this on previous article.

Then came the evening the time seriously to be watched, this might give climax like 1408 or our own 'Kandhsamy'. My eyes were all around the place looking for some clue on where to start my first page on 'God is he real'. I befriend some relatives there, one was Mr.Kumar I didn't know whether he caught my motivated eyes or just like that he said 'every powerful God, many in city don't know about Sudalaimadan. I was asking myself was this a warning? sent by Sudalaimadan himself.

My cousin is the senior priest of the shrine. He was in a trans state all day long I was there from noon almost in front of his eye, when he returned home to bath looked at me and asked 'When did you come' by then its was 7pm. So does this really works!! was he in complete outta human mode. You must know they carried big sickles and swords in hand when they danced I'm not going to experiment. The swords were really sharp, sharp enough to cut goat's head in single nice cut :O

The important ceremon started from Amman kovil, just back to my cousin home. They had all the musicians and priest assembled. Drums and band blasted the sky as the ritual started with Deepa aarathanai to Amman then my cousin came dancing out of temple with 2 lighted torch in his hand and threw one in the direction of Sudailai mada swamy kovil then transferred the other to the next ranked priest went in again came back dancing wearing flower garland reaching above his chest blocking his vision. Then musicians played high tune damaging ears for which my cousin and four more priest representing every caste in village danced. I don't exactly know why they did it but it cleared his vision :) then every priest was awarded with a torch and came around the village by midnight they reached Sudailai mada swamy temple in the middle of cemetery. Then..........

Good to know about Ancestry

Probably I would have been in black trouser and blue shirt when I last visited my native, 12 years back. All these years its been don't worry about native years because I'm in great confusion on which is my native :D So how can I relate this place to me? My Grandfather Palaniappa Pillai's hometown. My Father's Paternal Grandfather, Mr.Chokalingam pillai got settled into Kumarapuram a village next to Tisaiyanvilai, Thirunelveli.

We were the only family from upper-caste Saiva Pillai, so we received a lot of respect, the family is referred as 'Kanapillai kudumbam' and our home is referred as 'Panna veedu'. More like 90's tamil movies broadcast's when elders from my family crosses the street people used to remove slippers and keep their towel in armpit or they tie it around hip. It didn't last long just two generations :) Even now the respect has not came down but idiotic 'remove chappal' rituals are skipped.

Mr. Chokalingam Pillai had two son Mr. Muthaiya pillai, the elder son who also settled in same village to patronage the respect already established & Mr. Palaniappan pillai, the younger, my own grandfather who left the town for smooth relationship and settled in Devakottai, Ramanathapuram. But as descendants of Chokalingam pillai my father and his brother gets similar respect but not me, I'm total alien to that village.

Its time to take care

Its being 21 years since birth, my parents would ask this question when I can hardly hear them talk " Have you taken all the prescribed tablets?" I would say "yes, you gave me I had them all". With this they will not stop their care "Have this multi-vitamin tablet, this will make you healthy!!, our neighbor suggested this". Like me everyone reading might went through Multidec syrup or tablet, Calcium Sandoz, or some other thing. My friend used to have this golden yellow tablet which stinks likes rotten fish if broken, he used to call that as "meen matharai" if you are like my friend check your muscles because he is quite a giant now :)

I'm turning 22 this June and I'm Man now. Its time for me to give back as I said in article one. It time for me to give back what they showed "CARE". Its a virtual torture, imagine you finding it difficult to sleep with headache finally you forget to look at the clock and close your eyes your mom stops by and says "Have this milk and then sleep" :P. That would be terrible my friend I tell you.

Without the care we wouldn't have made it, I wouldn't have made it through. So its time you give back some you took, take care of your parents. Take them to hospital when they say they have a headache they might refuse fearing economic situation, it might be difficult to skip 'Chammak Chalo' in SS tv but do it. But once glance the situation of first time ever complaining to doctor about them, say they are skipping breakfast not showing interest in food, watching TV late night for 1970s song. Wow! Beauty isn't that, it is not all bad...

But what is funny is still I can't, in all her pain mom is asking me to wear anti-radiation specs when using PC :') Learning to take care from a person who is veteran of it...

Training @ Cognizant

I received my Date of Joining mail on 16 Oct 2011, I was so happy that finally I got that. I was the only one from my college to get the mail to report on that particular day so I went pretty much alone. I reported in MEPZ on Oct 20th from the next Monday my training began in Siruseri. I was able to spot many people who studied with me in school on the first day of Induction.

Initially I was placed in customized batch then was moved to Advance JAVA or J2EE in a generic term. I got pinned to IME vertical that handles clients related to Information, Media and Entertainment domain. We were trained in batches of 24, curse or charm I got into a batch with 20 girls! Whatever it didn't last for long, I was pretty much comfortable after getting out of it. My school was co-ed but classes were separate for boys and girls never mind 8th and 12th grades, where I was put into co-ed classes because I'm a good boy :P In college I remember studying together with girls nope remember seeing girls in my class cause they used to mug we used to bunk

Whatever I never felt comfortable with girls, good that I was put into batch of more boys at least marginally. If you were following my blogs susa360(extinct) & answer360 and my friend Vibin's privatevibin(extinct) blog you might have some reason to smile about girls :D Slowly the training began with "Dude" trainer to whom we bid adieu so that someone who really knows Oracle can teach us. Then came Sasirekha fairly fine trainer even she made us yawn for JAVA classes or is that my concentration was not there :) May be I was not there :P

Cognizant gave a new insight to life, new practices, new friends, new life, knowledge. "Ain't they colleagues" you might ask but no they are friends all freshers we never behave like morons just humans :P To be honest I even gained some new female friends not all girls behave same, I wish no girl from my college reads this :D I even volunteered for a CSR stuff they call it JA-Junior Achievement, which help in shaping up the future mind to better pick what they are going to be and study accordingly, so thereby reducing the number of engineering aspirants :P just kidding.

Reaching Siruseri from my home is a herculean task, so I took the office bus which picks me up from Chromepet GST road to office and drops me back to same location. Wires can help anyone push the one hour and fifteen minute by taking you to trans-music world. I practiced it for sometime didn't work for me got my headset torn :( so I worked on relationships :) made new friends found companion. Was little life journey taking me to new world, professional world. Some nice little breeze from Pallavaram - Thoraipakkam Highroad have always begged to slow down the bus.

Here we had some exams to clear before getting into business, its was never a problem because papers! they help. Its more like a Q&A book which made many Anna University students as Engineers, they even existed in corporate :D Wonder what I even topped in a paper but that's the only subject for which I did study only using official materials.

I can't stop writing myself about the first month salary and the new joy of spending own money. Actually I received my first month salary in second month :P weird! not so for me because I choose an International banker I had to deal with that. I planned to buy new clothes for my family including Caesar, a collar for him. Parents they always see you like child, permission denied :( so all that I bought was a silver coin and sweets, but it also made me feel well :) Good thing they didn't restrict me from using Debit card asked not to spend much, they never check account the trust worked I didn't spend much, except for the new culture's treats :)

Even though the training concentrates on Technology, Vertical, Horizontal, Domain, Client Satisfaction, Peer, Team work, Leadership and some more words which can possibly send your head in spin, I learnt many things but not any of the above. It provided us a platform to work, it taught us how we can possibly work. It showed some people with great knowledge and attitude and asked us to be them with no choice...

PonnAmbala medu a dream still...

Update, Jan 2015: Forest Dept. has made it virtually impossible to go there now-a-days. CCTV surveillance cameras are installed. Rules are being followed strict after PTR completed absorbed Poonambalamedu

I was in Pondicherry when I received a call from dad said he is going to PonnAmbala medu and will be leaving on Saturday. It was his dream that he want to visit that holy spot from which Lord Ayyappa give dharsan to Pandhala Maharaja on Maharasankrathi. After a day I came to Chennai and came to know that still two place are vacant for the trip, thought I can join and dad accept my proposal as its not a opportunity that anyone can get.
I clicked this from q, photography is actually prohibited :P

As per the schedule we started on Saturday morning from my home after ketunerai. We reached Pamba via Villupuram, Trichy, Dindigal, Theni, Cumbam, Kumily, Vanidiperiyar, Mundakayam, Kalaketty, approx it took 690Km for us to reach there. Stayed in Maramath complex, Pamba in festival periods these will be used as guest house for Police and VIPs. Sunday morning 5am started to Sannithanam had dharshan around 0830hrs, did NeiAbhishekam before 1000hrs.

On that day someone has booked for Udhayaasmana pooja which was followed by Sahasrakalasabishekam. During this period they used to play Panchavathiyam, a very powerful, vibrating tune, peoples used to play this from mandapam just opposite to Sannidhanam. I sat within 5 ft from them in mandapam and listened to it for almost a hour, generally in Makaram period we don't even get a minute to stand there! I relished in all this and returned to room after I prayed in front of Kodimaram for a long time, did a sashtanga namaskaram.

All those moments were plagued once I reached room, I was informed it is not possible for some of us to go there. So, obviously I had to give it up for the deserving pilgrims. But we peoples who didn't get opportunity to go spent time in Lower camp river and Coconut farm, it was relaxing.

To get to Hapiness have a Get Together

As Sainath asked I came to Anna arch, there came Elavarasan to pick me up to Mcdonalds where we planed to celebrate. It was a real hot day unable to stand outside for a long time we stepped into the geek world of para-ab-normal's who had habit of forgetting mother tongue ;) There are places in every city of India where if we speak native language we are uneducated and brute! I always wonder about this weird environment, in what way speaking your language can deteriorate your status!

That alien land suffocated us two for sometime before Sathya, Sai, Suresh came they went to buy a shirt for Vibin as a gift.  March 7th was Vibin's B'day that is the reason we are going to have a party, Vibin and Azar came then. The place stabilized after peoples around me started speaking 'Tamil'!! Usual over-sized buggers, unusual soft drink in cup and complimentary sauce packets quickly disappeared, after that we went to Anna Nagar park. Did I forgot something still I can smell sauce ah! tissues!! we saved water to save earth!!

Highlight of the day, there we had obvious discussion about life ;) Its almost a year since final examz of engineering we had lot of issues and happening to speak about and to deal with. We didn't speak much about us but about everything we could think off stories, gossips, make ups, break ups... whatever that struck our mind for god sake we even spoke about future :P When I see a movie about great affection, care, fun of college friends I used to laugh not anymore.

Many things happened around us the tall tower, some kinda freaking show on modern education methods, malfunctioning fountains..... and yes dangling bushes of dark :P from whatever happened there or in our recent past we extracted only laughter. It was just magical purest form of tease and fun, no one was spared. Soon tummy bell rang dinner time, veteran Sathya suggested Karthick tiffin center which will not burn hole.

This tiffin stall had 2 branches in Anna nagar one in 3rd avenue(probably) crowed one other in Shanthi nagar a place were we can laught out loud. Obvious we went to unfamiliar 2nd branch filled the fuel. We all started to home with relaxed mind and preservable moments. :)

Wise will say World will not end

There is saying for many years "If you win you need not explain, if you lose you must not be there to explain".

That explains it all but for those who can't figure out,
Scenario A: World stays alive after 2012. Point the hands at peoples who said it will end and laugh out loud.
Scenario B: World ends, so does all. You will not be there to explain neither the person who said its going to be over can ask!

Optimist you will always say go with Scenario A. I say World will not end ask me whatever you want to after 2012 :P

Is it Ooty Is it Bangalore no its Chennai

I thought its going to be just another day except that I have to report to GWFM on 20-Feb-12. That day I decided to go in bike so that I need not waste time in going round the city and so had to hit the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam highroad. Soon after leaving home I realized that the day is still cold and now its 8am, later dropped dad in Chromepet railway station so that he can go to his office then traveled towards north to reach the particular highroad

On that day, image not from Exact Highroad, 20-02-2012 0915hrs
I have a good habit of not cleaning my PC so that it can last for some more years, I follow the same for every other device so does the visor will remain undusted or more brutally shabby. Half way I raised my visor so that I can see that road clearly, OMG! its all fog!! or is that city has already celebrated its Diwali'12 without my knowledge :P

Visibility level was too low anything beyond 200m will be not be noticed. Fog stayed thick and hard even after 9am but it started to clear from then, can see something in air like shadow range was around 1km. At last I felt some sunshine in my hand not heat just the relaxing effect from cold. They are relaying the roads, still before work commences the early morning commuters can experience smooth drive on solid black surface it was just awesome but whatever said 70kmph drive in that fog that too in streak was funny....

Session name could have been 'SWADRUTHA show'

One of the Batch Owners came running in to find Abinay so that he can get some guys to speak in front of Mr.Sridhar, Sr. Manager, Academy -Delivery. The session was named as 'Coffee with Sridhar' it concentrates on new trends and technologies which he might not be aware. From my batch three went Abinay, Mugil and me, we didn't decide on what to speak so that we can be versatile to chose what to speak there. But our decision was not appreciated by BOs but we never did really bothered about it.

Including us there were 11 CATs waiting for Sridhar to arrive in conference hall, as dictated by BOs soon as he came we all said 'Hi! Sridhar' sounded more like kinder garden. Straight away introduction happened, Abinay was the first one to catch the attention he talked about book written by PSG college lectures, Sridhar was indeed an alumni of PSG then they indulged in more a 1-1 chat.

Then I introduced myself as JA volunteer and mentioned that I have met him in training sessions for JA, then he started talking about Outreach - JA for sometime. I spoke about electric field which is capable of changing ordinary glass to bulletproof glass and some voltaic glass which acts as triggered blinds for shade. Then came Mugil into scene, master stroke, he talked about networks and securities. Mugil came up with some interesting facts and notes, Sridhar was excited and invited Mugil to talk about this to all CATs and asked Kishore(TL) to move forward on Mugil's session! Hope that I would see Mugil on stage soon.

May be it was more our batch 'SWADRUTHA' show because we were able to connect to every fact and news shared there. Abinay told unknown qualities of water moreover he was connecting to everyone around, he added some points to others facts which was believed to be unknown but it was known to him :)

I wonder why our CATs are more a copy cats whether it is because Sridhar is himself a JA volunteer or is that because it sounded good, everyone deemed them as some kind of social service oriented person. But which again became a favour for us before closing the session Sridhar spoke about Outreach JA for 5 minutes he pointed me and said continue your good work, he added that after helping children on career guidance you'll have immense satisfaction and wished that everyone would be a part of it.

The MFRP @ Best

The training that I experience here in Cognizant is good, after clearing all those modules I was waiting for the MFRP final review. At the first review our team was not able to perform well because we were not working as a team. It was more a single handed project, it was regarded as structured but not Object oriented programming by our Mentor these comments made us realize that we are struck deep and in dark.

In the extension or the final phase of project we followed agile methodology in which I played as Business Analyst / Tester. Predominantly I was to be involved in resolving bug, code analysis and design, but nothing stopped me from helping in coding. I worked on bringing a program with BLOB data type that could handle all binary formats and a new theme/look for our project to make the interface look cool. I accomplished both the task on time with sincere guidance from Yusuf and Viswa (the two M.Tech grads in my batch with extensive practical knowledge).

Starting my real work late I had to take the code home to analyse it for good standard and performance, got the exact version of SDE which we use in office from my organization's internal site it is no sin our organization allow it as is a opensource. But the problem was when the code which was perfect started malfunctioning by opening on new windows instead of staying on the same, simple solution was to use the unorganized code. Anyway we rectified the problem on the new code after the final review.

On the day of review every team was giving their high, as our performance just meet the requirement in phase one he might not expect much from us, that gave us an edge that even small initiation will strike him big! Exactly that happen we presented our project as third/last team, I thought since he was getting busy on calls he will not look much into the code goodness we are saved that he did not find that we use code with zero standard.

Mentor complimented that we worked a long way to get to the standard of other teams, it was a small sentence but did matter a lot. He even complemented our batch with a appreciation mail, which is rare like only 1 batch out of 15 will get this kind of mail. He said we, our batch has set a new benchmark in performance level of MFRP. All this time my batch, SWADRUTHA was regarded as a notorious batch in academy but now we get a good response and respect from academy, faculty team.

Perfect Farewell 2011 - New Year Welcome Bajan @ HOME FOR CHALLENGED CHILDREN

Every year from the month of November to January it is Ayyappa bajan season in my life. Usually the place where we perform Bajan would be home (residence) at times it would be temple if requested since we are not professionals neither we charge nor encourage it. Unlike ordinary Ayyappa bajan we do Samprathaya Bajan which follows a fixed format which has always received appreciation. A simple call from an acquaintance whom we met 4 years ago in train on pilgrimage to Sabarimala fixed a date for bajan in “HOME for challenged children” in Anna nagar, Chennai.
Since I have just joined a job still in training period I was not allowed to take leave unless it is really an emergency. I decided not to go because I was getting tired of working hard, that week was really tough because of storm. After all that rain and storm on Friday my organization declared a holiday for us on 31st (Saturday) also the last day of 2011. Without any further delay I decided to go there and update the same on our Facebook group. Even if I say “I will not come” my good friends will drag me to the HOME for bajan for playing dolak since Balaji who plays it regularly was not around.
The actual plan was to be there early and finish the pooja as soon as possible since the children there have to take medicine and sleep before 8pm. But we fell short of schedule reached there around 6:30pm which must have been 5pm as per plan. Since the bajan started late it has to end late so Guruswamy of the group (my dad) asked the staffs of the HOME to feed the children and given medicine. Even though I was not able to play the dolak to best I was able to make some sound out of it to match the bajan. We expected the children to head to their respective rooms and dorm to sleep.
To the surprise of all after dinner the children returned to the main hall to listen to bajan. Towards the finishing the song’s tempo got higher and better for which Mathi anna and I had to play faster and louder. I was not happy to play that way because it might hurt them. But they gave another surprise by clapping and enjoying the tunes. It made us in high spirits to see them enjoying the bajan even when it’s already 1 hour past their bedtime so played some more songs of high tempo. After the bajan we had dinner there and came back.
In the little time gap between bajan and dinner we had little conversations with the children in HOME. First I was not sure about speaking with them neither was not able to start a conversation. I’m not able to give a reason for not speaking but something inside me said “speak with them”, “make them happy”. The quickest solution I came up with is to stick to someone who can speak without any struggle - my mom. Mom and I went to the first floor and met children who were about to sleep they were happy to have conversations with us. Staffs didn’t allow us to every part of HOME since they felt we would be light hearted.
While mom was speaking with staffs a boy named Sudharsan said ‘Suuper vasichinga, samma speedu’ it took time for me to realize that he was speaking to me! But he made me comfortable I had a little chat with him he is 8 years old in 1st standard. Then he introduced his friends Giriranjani ,…. I can’t remember other names. But they were helping each other a lot. It was amazing to know that some children even know the diet plan of others and restrict them from eating all and much.
If you just have a bird brain like me and think that they need much help and know little then sorry! Even now I wonder why I was not able to start the conversation and how it was so easy for him to compliment me and make me comfortable. I don’t know whether it is a practice in their HOME or love they share but every child is taken care of other who is a bit more matured. I heard a girl is appearing for IAS entrance exam and some more excelling in other fields.
With words, I can’t make you feel what I felt. I can promise you one thing that I can take anyone there next time I visit the place, if they are interested. If you get a chance to spend a day with blessed children like them don’t miss, not every HOME is in need of money but every person there is in need of LOVE :)
